This is a super easy, hands-on way to learn the colors in Spanish! This game works for teaching, or for review.
“Puedo tener” translates to “May I have”. This game challenges kids to ask for a specific color using a full sentence in Spanish. They will be saying “May I have blue”, “May I have pink”, etc…but they will say it, “Puedo tener azul”, “Puedo tener rosado”, etc…
All you need is the free printable game which you can find by clicking here: {Puedo Tener Game}, and play-dough in the ten colors used for this game.
(Quick tip: If you only have basic colors of play-doh, you can probably mix some to get the colors you are missing. Ex: White + a little black will make a great gray! or Red + blue squish into a nice purple. 🙂 )
The instructions are all in the printable here: {Pudeo Tener Game}, but I’ll give you a run-through with pictures below.
I’ll be sure to answer any questions about the game. Just drop them in the comments at the bottom of the post.
Step 1: Set up
Give each child the printed splat page (ours are laminated, but you could also just drop them into a plastic page protector like the ones here: Plastic Page Protectors.)
{Wondering which splat page to print off? If your kids are learning their Spanish color words for the first time, you might want to print the page that has the color words on it. If you’re using this game to review the Spanish color words that they already know, you will want to print the splat page that does not include the words.}

Place the answer cards face down by their respective color. Open the Play-doh containers.
Step 2: Game Play
The first player will start the game by touching any color splat on their page. This tells you what color they are attempting to say in Spanish. They are going to use a full sentence,
Ex: “May I have blue?” by saying, “Puedo tener azul?”
If they say it correctly, they can take a pinch of blue play-doh and squash it on the blue splat on their page. This player’s turn is now over and it moves to the next player. If they use the wrong color word,
Ex: “Puedo tener rojo?” when it should be “Puedo tener azul?”
flip the blue/azul answer card over and read the correct color word. Their turn is then over, and it moves to the next player. They do not get play-doh unless they say the correct color word.
When a player’s page has play-doh on every splat, the game is over and that player wins!
Easy, right?!
If you want to add a response to the question “Puedo tener…?” you can do that too. I have a cheat sheet of Spanish words and phrases for this game in the printable, which you can find by clicking here: {Puedo Tener printable}
If you are unsure of any of the pronunciation of the Spanish words, you can use Google for an audio clip. Simply type the English word and follow that up with “in Spanish.” For instance search “May I have in Spanish” —click here to see: “May I have in Spanish” Google Search
Comment with any questions you may have, or to tell me what Spanish word category (i.e. clothing items, numbers, days of the week, etc) you would like made into a game next.
