Here’s a fun list of read-alouds that you can combine with snack time! Children that love stories will enjoy this–but so will children that love to EAT!
This is a way to turn reading stories together into a cozy, memorable experience for your kiddos. And it’s so easy to do! I will be adding more to this list as we go, but here are a few to get started! Enjoy!! And be sure to leave a comment if there’s a book title you think I should add.

May 22, 2020 at 11:48 pmLove this! These are some very cute ideas. Green eggs and ham was my childhood favorite. My dad used to read it to me when I was little and now he reads it to my three boys. So special.

May 23, 2020 at 2:43 amWe love Chimpanzees for Tea, and my 3 year old sometimes recites the grocery list from it while I’m grocery shopping. 😄 I’ve thought it would be fun to have a ‘tea party’ with the things listed in the book!

May 23, 2020 at 2:53 amOne of our favorites to read is, ‘Groovy Joe; Ice Cream & Dinosaurs’… it would fit perfectly in your Ice cream category!
There’s also, ‘The sneaky, snacky squirrel,’ which is a lift the flap book to find acorns. So a acorn/nut themed category for all those who like salty snacks.

May 23, 2020 at 2:54 amBasically all of the “If you give a…” books are perfect for this! If you give a cat a cupcake or if you give a mouse a brownie etc.

May 23, 2020 at 3:42 amThe book Hello Lighthouse is a favorite right now. There’s not a food theme, but it’s beautifully illustrated and written and the supply ship always delivers pork and beans to the lighthouse keeper so I think that could fit!

May 23, 2020 at 4:05 amCloudy with a chance for meatballs. Bread and Jam for Frances. However, our very favorite is the series by Numeroff others have shared. If you give a mouse a cookie. If you give a moose a muffin. If you give a pig a pancake… I would warn/ask my kids from the time they were little “what happens if you give daddy __“ it made them laugh because my husband always follows up a drink request with a snack request! 🙃😂

May 23, 2020 at 1:50 pmLove this! Another food-themed book I remember from my childhood is Strega Nona. But my daughter loved reading The Biggest Cookie in the World (a Cookie Monster easy reader) and making a giant chocolate chip cookie to go with it.

May 23, 2020 at 4:28 pmCharlie the Ranch Dog is one of my class’s favorites. It would be a fun book to read while serving breakfast (even for lunch or dinner) because Charlie is known for saying, “Breakfast is life, especially when bacon is involved.” 😆😋
Another good book for this activity is The Little Red Hen who makes bread and teaches a life lesson. Burro’s Tortillas has a similar storyline but with tortillas.
I love this idea! It’s such a good idea to get kiddos engaged.

May 23, 2020 at 5:51 pmI love this idea! You get to sneak in a story and reading to meal time. I think would be fun to add are Dragons Love Tacos, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, The Hungry Caterpillar, and The Little Red Hen. A fun soup book would be A Pot Of Stone Soup but you’d have to make sure they know not to eat rocks.. Winnie the Pooh usually has honey in its pages.
