Elections & The Presidency – Children’s Book List

It has been a crazy election year for us adults–but remember that a lot of our children (particularly those who are under school age or homeschooled) have been mostly shielded from 2020’s negative effect on our lives. 🙂   That being said, one of the great things about election years is that it presents an awesome opportunity to talk to our kids about how elections and the U.S. presidency works!

Last week I grabbed a stack of children’s books on the subject of how elections work, from our local library. My favorites are the ones that made it onto this list.  I will link them to both Amazon and thriftbooks.com in case your library is not open yet and you want to grab them online!

Thrift Books is a great option if you don’t mind used books. We have ordered from them many times!! Shipping is free on orders over $10!

Vote!

By Eileen Christelow

Description: Written mostly in word bubbles, this has a more abstract feel to it, but would be interesting to kids ages 7 or above. It covers a lot more than the Rookie Readers –things like recounts, fundraising, campaigning, and more!

So you want to be the president?

by Judith St. George

Description: This book has silly illustrations and is written in a silly voice, however, it shares a lot of interesting stories and quotes from the presidents of the past. It has one outdated line about “No person of color has been a president.” It follows that line by saying, “…but anything is possible!”
